Severe weather leads to fallen trees, car crashes and flooding around the Triangle
Severe weather moving through the area took it’s toll on the Triangle.
In Smithfield a tree fell onto a family home.
WRAL spoke to someone who was inside the house when the tree came crashing through the roof, he says the tree fell during the heavy downpour. The Smithfield Fire Department deemed the home ‘unsafe’, the family had to find another place to stay for the night.
On I-87 in Wake County, a multi-vehicle collision blocked lanes of traffic for hours. According to Highway Patrol, the accident was caused by drivers failing to slow down and not paying attention during rainy conditions.
No one was seriously injured.
Although heavy rain came down in Wendell, it did not impact the annual firework show. “I’m glad the grass got watered and that we get to see fireworks,” said Kevin Auriemma, an attendee.
Some people who showed up at the show tell WRAL they came ready for the conditions.
“We kind of prepared for that much earlier in the day, checking the weather. We are quite excited to be here,” said Lisa Grant.
More rain is expected on the forecast later this week. Download the WRAL Weather App to stay up to date on the forecast.
